Session Description
This workshop demonstrates a veteran teacher’s inaugural experience teaching a class novel as comprehensible input, an instructional technique in which teachers provide input that allows students to understand most, but not necessarily all, of the language. The examples are for the reader Un Voyage Difficile by Jennifer Degenhardt in an intermediate French course, but the strategies cross all levels and languages. Come see how this method fosters independent learning and student accountability.

Session Objectives
By the end of the session, participants will be able to introduce the independent reading experience with cultural context, implement and support specific reading and assessment strategies, and use a reflection tool to measure student learning.
